Preview release

A preview release is a preview.  It should never been used in production.

The reason that it is a preview is that

It may not have a upgrade path from an older release

It may not have a smooth path to a future release

It is not supported officially from the support organization.

The support organization has limited bandwidth and can only support those releases that have prepared.

Whenever an issue is reported, the support needs to be able to reproduce the issue and they have several releases that are currently under support and they can easily bring an instance and try to reproduce.

Some software may have to provide the upgrade path from an older release without taking a hop approach and some even older releases can only be upgraded to a release that can be upgraded to the current release.

Reducing or controlling the number of releases that the support organization need to support can help better use support resources, including people and machine.
